Great advice - one thing it doesn`t mention though is to make sure that your feet are warm.   On a long(ish) bike ride it is possible to keep nice and cosy with the right clothes on and the action of cycling but,  because your feet aren`t doing a great deal,  even with thick warm socks,  etc you can lose the feeling in your feet and not even realise it until..................................you try to dismount and realise that you can`t feel anything in your feet and ...........fall over!!!!!!   Yes - this has happened to me.
